“Somehow, deep in ourselves, we feel inadequate when we can’t stick to our resolutions. Ironically, we become the lawmaker, then the lawbreaker, then the judge and executioner. We are the source of our own misery.”
Thick Face, Black Heart
We draw our own lines in the sand. We choose where they go.
When we cross those lines in the sand, we let ourselves down.
We disrespect ourselves. We break our own laws.
Then we punish ourselves by not living up to our own set of rules.
When we make a commitment to ourselves and uphold that commitment, many good things happen as a result.
We accomplish the necessary task. We boost our self-esteem.
Our self-image improves. We kept a promise to ourselves and felt good about it.
This compounds over time. We use that momentum to accomplish the next thing on our list.
The more we abide by our own laws, the better we are.
The more lines that we cross, the weaker we become.
Respect the line in the sand.
